HOW TO CHANGE COLOURED PIC INTO SMOKY B&W01. First step ; open your picture file, like the one below.
02. Click Ctrl + A to select the pic and Ctrl + C to copy it. Then click Ctrl + N to open a new workspace.03.Click ok, then press Ctrl + V to paste the pic in a new workspace. Then, press Ctrl + J to duplicate the layer of the base picture.
04. After that set the newly duplicated layer mode to Soft Light.
Your picture should be a little more darker.
05. Then, click the round-yingyang like button, at the bottom of the layer panel and choose Gradient Map > Black & White.
06. Open up a new layer. Then go to the Image > Apply Image. Click ok.
Tadaa, you got an applied image.
07. Set the newly applied image to Screen layer mode.
You will notice that the overall pic should be lighter, as if more light was applied.
08. Click the square colour box, to pick colour. Pick a colour of this setting.
Set the layer mode to Multiply. The picture will look like it was illuminated with gray colour.
09. Again click the yingyang button and choose Gradient. Click OK and play with the opacity to your likings. I'm using 52% opacity.
This will create a smoky effect.
10. The last step would be to pick a colour with this setting.
Open up a new layer and fill the new layer with this colour using Paint Bucket tool. Set the layer mode to Exclusion and play with the opacity.Right click at the layer and choose Flatten the Image, so that it'd only have one layer at the end.
You will have something like this for the end result:
Try it :D

Ideation
I was browsing deviantART.com for ideas on my paperdolls; and I found some that I think is suitable for my e-wallpaper concept.
It basically will look like the dolls in the pic, but I will change the cloth to Malay traditional cloth like baju kurung, kebaya nyonya and baju melayu.
I will also probably design the dolls faces and clothes in Photoshop , just to make things easier - just in case since it'd be hard doing it manually.
This is only a rough concept, nothing is finalised yet. I better be looking for more ideas -.-

LAYERS
01. Firstly, open up a new file by clicking Ctrl + N ; set the size and resolution accordingly. 02. Click at the place that I circled, to create a brand new layer.
03. This is how it will looked like when a layer is created.
04. To edit a layer's name (in order for it to be easier to organise) double click the layer and write what you want as your layer's name.
That's the basic step on creating a layer. Easy ain't it?

Had a sudden idea while browsing the net. Saw some random doodles and boom, I got an idea for my e-wallpaper!I want to do an e-wallpaper based on Hari Raya. The thing is that I want to create a festive feeling by setting up paperdolls - dressed in baju kurung and baju melayu; probably playing 'bunga api' or messing around. I want to create a lively, enjoyable scene.
For the background, I want to use soft colours like pastel or maybe some stripey, polka dot-ish pattern since I want to show the childishness or the innocent-ness of the image.
This is not final yet I guess and I haven't decided on how to do the paperdolls anyway.
